Enjoying Moments of Natural Wonder...the Eclipse
Lunar eclipse of February 2008
Mark Brooks took the time to enjoy the February 21, '08 lunar eclipse in Citrus Heights, CA. We appreciate his sharing his photos with us...
I noticed the weird light in the evening of the eclipse, and my husband and I had noted that the color of light looked like we had experienced back in Oklahoma during tornado weather -- a weird yellowish, pinkish light.
The total eclipse was a spectacular sight, even though short-lived. Although the moon will be just within the Earth's umbral shadow (the umbral magnitude is 1.111), it was visibly colored by the Earth's atmosphere.
NASA: NASA info on Total Eclipse of Feb 20, 2008
The entire event was visible from South America and most of North America, as well as Western Europe, Africa, and western Asia (on Feb. 21). During the total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk took on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray.
