Standard Operating Procedures for Better Land Management and Sustainability of Natural Resources

Everyone loves a bit of greenery in their day -- a view of trees and sky out of windows, walking up a flower lined sidewalk, a vista of corporate grounds beautifully landscaped with birds and butterflies flitting about...beauty inspires confidence and hope.

And sustainable landscaping delivers confidence and hope! By reducing landscaping's drain on natural resources such as excessive water use, chemical pollutants, and runoff contamination, we can have our beauty and be sustainable, too! It's important to make sustainable practices part of standard operating procedures

The following organizations in California have found that the EPA's GreenScapes Partnership Program helps them learn, do...and share sustainable landscaping practices.

Sustainable Greenscaping Savings

GreenScapes is a partnership program designed to help preserve natural resources and prevent waste and pollution by encouraging companies, government agencies, and other entities to make more holistic decisions regarding waste generation and disposal and the use of the land, water, pesticides, and energy.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy for Sustainable Greenscaping Savings

By focusing on the "4 Rs"—reduce, reuse, recycle, and rebuy—this program can help improve both an organization's bottom-line and the environment. GreenScapes will promote practices and products that still meet users needs but have better environmental profiles than current methods. GreenScapes will develop resources such as technical assistance publications, workshops, and a Web site. Organizations can participate in

Partners include companies, agencies, and others who, in joining the program, commit to undertaking a minimum of two GreenScapes activities.

Allies include professional groups, trade associations, research organizations, and product manufacturers or marketers who, in joining the program, will work with their affiliated organizations to promote greater use of GreenScapes activities.
