I had an interesting call this morning from Sasha Logan, the Chief Technical Officer for Green Box America. Fluid Coolers vs. Cooling Towers

All fun aside, fluid cooler technology is worth evaluating. "We can save 98% of industrial water cost and 75% of electricity costs," says Logan. That's a claim work checking into.

Fluid Coolers were introduced in the North American market after extensive development and operation in Europe for almost ten years. Europe no longer allows cooling towers that use lots of water and chemicals (that have to be replaced yearly, and ... where do they go?)

The average Water Savings compared to a cooling tower are over 95% per year. Depending on your process temperatures and location, the average Electrical Savings compared to a chiller vary between 50% - 90% per year."

Calculate Real Payback

Payback varies with the highly variable water and electrical utility pricing. Arkansas and Arizona varies greatly from California prices. This plays a major role in payback.

Payback, depending on utility rates, can be a 1 - 1.5 years to 3 years. This could be a phenomenal payback.

How do you calculate payback on an ordinary cooling tower? To compare apples to apples, first compare a conventional investment, and then compare this higher priced product and savings from utility costs, maintenance costs, and waste management of the chemicals involved.
